I Want To Write Like A Book or Something

You know that I love love reading novels To some people, reading is boring. People always ask me “How can you even read that?” or “You can read that in 3 days?” and etcetera.

My love for books paved way for my love of writing which lead me to blogging and being in the official student publication of our school. Anyways, I’ve tried to go beyond and actually attempted to write a book.

It’s an apocalyptic themed book which I don’t remember the title. It’s about a girl trying to survive with her family after a zombie breakout. I was so excited to work with this idea and then suddenly, I just stopped it because 1.) I got self doubts, 2.) I was really busy with school and 3.) I can’t think of an amazing plot.

But lately, this year, I am having thoughts of writing again because I’ve had an idea for a fantasy series. It’s a really complex idea, this one. And then, recently, I’ve had an idea for a mystery book and a coming of age genre kind of short story.

These idea always bug me like when I’m trying to study or when I’m about to sleep. You can just see me at 11 pm in my bed, lying with my eyes wide open, trying to think of the setting and the plot for the novel.

I really want to develop these ideas but again, I’m busy with school and it will be a long process!

You might all be wondering what are these ideas. Here they go:

  • The working title for the fantasy one is “The Immortal Files: Child of Light”. There are deities called Immortals and they are from another realm. The main character founds out that he’s the Child of Light, the child of the Immortal of Light and the one prophesied to beat the Dark Immortal. He’s suddenly transported into the realm of the Immortals and other supernatural characters (there are witches, magi and others). In this realm, there’s a safe haven for the children of the other Immortals where the main character is immersed into the lore of the whole realm and the Immortals. The conflict is that 1.) the Dark Immortal is back andthe safety of the children is threatened after murders started happening  in the safe haven.
  • There are other fantasy ideas such “The Wicked Files”, “The Cursed Files” and “The Majesty Files”. One thing interesting about all these ideas is that they happen at the same realm of the Immortals so there might be crossovers and such. As I said, it’s really complex.
  • I have this idea about teenagers and different issues they’re struggling with such as anxiety, depression, family problems, eating disorder, sexual orientation and etcetera. It’s a serious one as you can tell. It’s called “No Filter”. There 3-6 characters (I can’t decide) who has their own kind of conflict and POV and then they meet each other because of another conflict (which is the main one). I can’t think of a conflict that will work for this. I thought of that they all have a common friend that died because of suicide and they meet each other because of this tragedy. The problem with this is the plot.
  • The last idea actually came from “No Filter”. It’s a mystery story where 3 friends founds out that their friend commited suicide. Then, they found a suicide note and quickly noticed that it’s not their friend’s handwriting which they concluded it’s forged. They began speculating if their friend actually killed himself/herself or he/she was killed. Then, one thought that there’s a mysterious figure trying to terrorize them which began a hysteria for them. It’s kind of Pretty Little Liars kind of things with a little dash of Heathers.

That’s all of it.

I really want to develop this ideas but I’m just so afraid of the process so if anyone can lend a helping hand, that would be awesome. Also, share your thoughts about these ideas because if I officially made up my mind and tried to do one of this ideas, I would need your suggestions and opinions.

That’s all for now. I hope you like this post. I’ll see you again soon! Bye!

I’m All Out of Ideas

Hey guys!

As you can see, I have been inactive in the blogosphere. The obvious reason is that I’m pretty busy with school (it will get a lot more busy). It’s my last year in junior high school so I’m really giving my best, hoping to have a lot of accomplishments and be in the honor roll.

But there’s another problem. I am out of ideas. I literally don’t know what to write anymore. I spend hours of thinking and brainstorming and I just can’t think of a good idea.

“It must be writer’s block”, I say but this has been going on for like weeks or months even. I’ve lost tracked. What kind of writer’s block is this?

But it’s not just “I can’t think of any ideas”. Sometimes it’s “I have many ideas but they’re all pretty mediocre and trash”. Sometime’s it’s “I have this idea, very awesome, but I can’t develop it”.

It’s just so exhausting.

It’s been so hard because all I’m writing now are weekly events in my life (Life Snippets). It’s just so repetitive and I don’t want everyone reading my blog to read the same thing over and over again. I want you all to read an interesting post that you can all enjoy.

I literally don’t know how to deal with this and I don’t want to take breaks because I’ve been inactive for too long and I miss writing.

If you can help me out, that would be amazing. Also, sorry for a short post. I just want to get it out of my system and blogging has been a great outlet for this so I hope you understand.

I Am Back

Hello there!

I am back! So so sorry for being inactive for like 2 weeks. There was so much to do these past weeks such as projects and requirements, and exams. Also, a lot happened so here’s a recap!

– I just realized that I haven’t listen to any songs other than musicals for like 3 or 4 months. Insane, right? Well, blame the musicals because musicals are so amazing! I recommend each and everyone of you to listen to one and get immersed. You won’t regret it. Speaking of musicals, I am obsessed with Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 and I am so sad because the show’s last performance will be on September 3. It was a really really great musical. Even though it’s ending, everyone can still support so please do. Listen the album on Spotify (there’s one for the Original Cast and Original Broadway Cast) or watch it if you can afford it.

– Last last week, there was a lot of projects and requirements to be done and most of them was to be submitted on August 11, which is just crazy. All those days, I was thinking “August 11 will be the death of me”. There was a letter to our president about unemployment, a video of a flash mob we did in my school, a brochure about anti-alcoholism and anti-smoking and a reaction and reflection paper in our Christian Formation. These were all hard to do.

– The following week was exam week. It’s our first periodical exam and boy oh boy was it a pain in the butt. There were a lot of things to be memorized and studied such as Iliad and Oddysey, biomes and how DNA are made, and herbal medicines. This was a lot you guys. Though, I think I did really good, both at reviewing and having the exam. Here’s hoping to have good scores! (I wrote this 14 days ago and continuing this. I already got my test and the results are good, I din’t fail or had any low scores. Some were really really high so I’m happy.

– I joined a speech choir competition and we’ve already competed. Spoiler alert: we won! Anyways, the practice were really really hard and tiring. Everything needs to be perfect from the actions, the way we speak and pronounce the word and our facial expressions. Our teacher (which is my classmate by the way. She’s really great) is strict yet kind (she always shout “TOP!”). Jump to the day of the competition, we were stressed and nervous. My voice is a little cracked. Then, it was our time to perform. My legs were shaking and being on stage is nerve-racking. a lot of people is watching you and you may commit one mistake. You may say the wrong word and disrupt the whole performance. It was intense. After the performance, after getting down, we were so happy because we knew we did our best and it was almost perfect ( just little flaws. No one noticed them except from us ). Jump to the announcement of winner, we were nervous but then our principal (it’s a school competition) had us shocked (or shookt) when she offers the trophy immediately before the announcement of the champion. Talk about spoiler alert. Anyways, we still didn’t expect because everyone was good and then it was announced the we won and I wasn’t listening. My co-members were already jumping out of excitement and I was just standing there but then I realized that we won and oh my god, it was the best feeling ever.

Anyways, hope you enjoyed this post. I’ll be back for more. Goodbye!

Let’s Talk about Orphan Black (Part 1)

Hello there!

I just recently watch the penultimate episode of Orphan Black, which is very very intense! My favorite show (and one of the best out there. I think it can go head to head with Game of Thrones itself), Orphan Black, is coming to an end this Saturday, August 12, and personally, I am not ready!

First of all, for those of you who don’t watch Orphan Black (like why are you not watching this brilliant and amazing show?), Orphan Black is about clones.

Sarah is a street-wise woman with a troubled past as an English orphan who bounced around foster homes before being taken in by Mrs. S, who uprooted her and her foster brother, Felix, to North America. She has made bad decisions in her life but always strives to do right by daughter Kira. When Sarah witnesses the suicide of a woman, Beth (who looks like her) she decides to steal Beth’s identity — boyfriend and money included — in an attempt to begin a new life for herself and Kira, with whom Sarah hopes to reunite. But assuming Beth’s life — Sarah eventually learns that Beth was her clone — doesn’t go as smoothly as she anticipates because Beth was a cop caught in the middle of a deadly conspiracy, making Sarah the new target. Sarah must fight to stay alive while trying to escape from the complex web.

She later met other clones such as Cosima, Helena, Alison and Rachel (the other main characters). I also just want to point out that Tatiana Maslany, a great great actress, plays all of this character with Kathryn Alexandre, her double. Isn’t that amazing?

Anyways, back to what I’m actually saying. I cannot stress out on how much I love this show. When I found out that season 5 will be the last season, I was thrashing my whole bedroom. “It can’t end! No!”, I said.

Before the show’s ending, I want to dedicate a whole post just me appreciating this masterpiece because it deserves a lot of appreciation and attention. If you also love this show, do an appreciation comment below and let’s talk because I need someone to talk to.

Let me just fanboy about how brilliant and clever the concept for this show is! They’re using the concept of clones on their plot. Number 1, that is crazy. It’s amazing how they executed that on show by hiring such an amazing actress (Tatiana Maslany is queen) and doing an amazing job on the CGI! For each season, they make an amazing and interesting story arc. This season 5 story arc,  revealing the head of Neolution as a 100+ year old man who lived because of the crazy science (the big bad company of the whole show), is purely amazing!

Orphan Black cast

Now let’s move to the stars of the show, Tatiana Maslany and Kathryn Alexandre. Tatiana Maslany is a Canadian actress (Canada has a lot of good things, why?) know for her performance in Orphan Black. She won lot of awards including an Emmy award (but to be frank, she deserves a lot more!). Let me just tell you this, Tatiana Maslany is one of the best actresses out there! As I said, she plays lots of character. She portrays all of them so well that you don’t notice that it’s just one person playing all of them. You can see interviews of the cast and you’ll notice where are the actors of the clone and then you’ll just notice that the clones are played by one character. In some instances even, a clone will pretend to be another clone and Tatiana Maslany performs that kind of scenes so well. You actually know that that character is just pretending to be the other one because that’s how good she is!

Let us not forget Kathryn Alexandre. She’s a brillian actress you guys. She can totally copy what Tatiana can do. She learns everything that has to be done, how this character speaks, moves and even the little gestures! She’s amazing!

Orphan Black 2.jpg

Another star is Skylar Wexler. Some child stars are so annoying especially to me because I’m always annoyed about children and their little weird things (I probably have done those weird things, I know, but still! It’s annoying), but Skylar Wexler is very different! She’s an amazing child actress. She can act scene that are serious. Just this penultimate episode, she was crying over a funeral and you can feel the anguish her character, Kira, is feeling! She’s amazing and I hope in the future, she becomes successful.

I have said a lot of things already about how I love this show and I still want to talk about it but this post will be so long and I still have a lot to do. Anyways, just check out for part 2. I hope you enjoy this post.

Tell me, do you love Orphan Black? Why? Who are your favorite characters? How do you feel about Orphan Black ending this Saturday?

It’s Been Hell!

I am back from a tiresome and dull journey filled with homeworks, school projects, exams, drama and other annoyances in life. At last, I am back to the blogosphere where I can finally share what happened to me and how I braved my nuissances in life. (Okay, I’ll stop. It’s cheesy, I know)

– It’s just the second month of my school year and BOY OH BOY, I am done with all of these hectic schedules and schoolworks. Throughout the 2 whole months, I had many quizzes on every subject and homeworks but working on the ratio, I can say there were more quizzes than homeworks which I am not fine. I’d rather write all day and search for answers in  every question of a homework rather than memorize every tiny bit of information in my notes or books that might not appear in a quiz!

– What’s more annoying than quizzes and homeworks? Exams! Last week, we had our exams and I did not prepare well. My motivation and productivity was literally out of the place, like, there’s none present. But, I still think that I did great on my exams which is kinda true. I got my results this week and I did not fail but was I happy about the score? Definitely not! I could have done better of course but it’s just the first one. I’ll make it up next time.

– There’s more than that my friends! There are also PROJECTS! (cue dramatic background music) They are the biggest horrors of any student! Throughout the two months, we had a lot of projects (such as an interpretation of one of Igor Stravinsky’s composition or doing a speech choir about Helen of Troy) and right now, I am still doing projects such as a short film about flood awareness (I’m editing the whole thing), a report about the growth of the early Church and report about operating systems.

– Part of my self care is journaling. Just writing down on how my day went or highlight of the day or just my thoughts. I got into journaling the beginning of the year and abandoned it on March because March was such a busy month! And I thought that I can do it on summer. Nope, I did not. And right now, I regained my motivation to do it again. Well, bit by bit, I am getting there. The hassle is recording what happened on March and on the summer vacation because there were some highlight (like Prom, a trip to Baguio and so on!)

–  Last note is that I’m currently obsessed with Kinky Boots (it’s a musical). I got into it because I knew Brendon Urie would be starring as Charlie Price. But what made me really obsessed with it is the original cast and the songs. Stark Sands and Billy Porter are so amazing and the songs? Very freaking dope and catchy! Go listen to it! It’s on Spotify.

And that’s where I’ll be ending. I hope you enjoy that post and I hope I post a lot more (nervous laughter)! Anyways, I’ll see you soon! Bye!

New Founds: Musicals!

Oh,  a new feature? Yes! New Founds is a feature where I share my new interests that I’m currently obsessed with! I’m going to launch this feature with a Musicals Edition!

I am not new to the world of musicals! During these past few months, the only songs I’ve been listening to are from musicals. My first musical obsession was Hamilton (still am and been obsessed since 2016). As I got obsessed with Hamilton, I am founding more and more musicals to be obsessed with and I’m gonna share two new obsessions!

Based on the 1988 cult film of the same name, Heathers tells the story of Veronica Sawyer after she joined the Heathers, the famous clique in her school, and how her life change when she met JD, her boyfriend.

This musical is just so amazing! It features such great actors like Barrett Wilbert Weed (Veronica Sawyer) who has such an amazing voice, Ryan McCartan (JD), Jessica Keenan Wynn (Heather Chandler) who is just perfect for the role, Elle McLemore (Heather McNamara) and Alice Lee (Heather Duke) who is about to star on Wish Upon. Not only that, the musical has really really great songs such Dead Girl Walking, Candy Store and Freeze Your Brain. The musical takes the story of the film and improves it which the definitely did. I recommend you all to give this musical a listen. This is an amazing musical and even though there’s still an active fandom, I’m sad that it’s not as popular as other musicals.

Loosely based on the 2000 film, Bring It On focuses on Campbell Davis and her cheerleading journey. It also focuses on the competitive world of cheerleading and rivalries.

I found this musical because Elle McLemore also showed in it. What I appreciate in this musical is the amazing songs and the choreography! Taylor Louderman, Jason Gotay, Adrienne Warren and Elle McLemore (of course) are such amazing actors. They sing their songs with such greatness while also doing choreography. Speaking of choreography, the dances were truly dazzling! The songs were so so so good (Alternative term was lit). There’s a recording of the songs in Spotify so please listen to it!

Well, I hope you enjoy this new feature in the blog. Also, sorry for not being active as I’ve been busy. It’s just the first month of my school year and it’s already hectic and add the revamp of The Artistics and you’ve got yourself a messy schedule! Anyways, I’ll see you soon! Bye!

Show and Tell // A Life of a Student-Blogger

Hello there!

If you’re going to meet one of my classmates and ask him or her the question “What do you remember about Jerrod?”, I’m 100 percent sure that they’re going to answer “he’s a blogger”. My whole class knows that I’m a blogger and it was (emphasize on the ‘was’ because it’s not anymore) a major buzz around my circle of friends.

One thing they don’t know is that it’s so freaking hard to manage your blog and school. It’s definitely a challenge that I’m still trying to figure out especially for me since I also join extracurricular activities in school and I run an online magazine so in total, I manage 4 things: school, blog extracurricular, and online magazine (it would be 5 if you’ll add my personal life).

For this Show and Tell post, I’ll let you have a peek into my life as a student/blogger!

As said before, it’s hard to manage both schools works and blog works and add some extracurricular activities from school and an online magazine. Basically, the formula for a very stressful life is blog plus school.

One very hard task to do is organizing and managing. It’s really hard to be so freaking organized so I’ll praise you right now if you can organize everything then add managing the tasks you just organized. It takes discipline for you to manage a lot of tasks in one day because there’s a lot of distractions. Your phone, your annoying little sister or brother or your cravings. Everything can be a distraction so it takes a lot of discipline for you to avoid these distractions.

Now, whining aside. I know I’ve said it’s a very stressful life but IT’S FUN! I seriously think that there’s still fun in this student/blogger lifestyle. I love to learn new things and discover and just let my curiosity out and do that in school, and I love to write and just get my thoughts out there and blogging is a great medium for that.

Also, with this kind of lifestyle, I’m also stepping out of my comfort zone which I seriously think is a scary thing to do but I believe in the saying that great things never came from comfort zones. Also, with this, I’m also learning to be adventurous and to take risks.

I know this is so cliché but it’s so true! If you’re not organized at all, everything would be such a huge mess!

I always keep a notebook where I always write all the assignments and projects I need to do or exams I need to study for. I also write some blog posts ideas. I also write some tasks I need to do about the online magazine. I write to-do lists each day and do at least the 3 most important things to do in the lists. Just to make sure, I also write the to-do lists on sticky notes (thank you to the person who invented sticky notes) or in my phone. This kind of stuffs really helps me to get organized and get through the day nicely!

So grab a notebook or a journal or a planner and write all the things you need to do and sort them out. Always write a To-Do list and make sure to them, prioritize and focus on what’s important, and you’re good to go!

It takes tons and I mean TONS (!!!) of patience. As I said before, the student/blogger lifestyle is very stressful so a bucket of patience and another extra bucket would be needed.

As for me, I don’t have the enough patience and I tend to be always frustrated at things and stuff so what I always do sleep, eat and drink. I don’t really know why but sleeping, eating and drinking just helps me to calm my nerves down.

I hope you enjoy this post! I’ll see you soon! Bye!

Spectacular: Finding Audrey

I’ve been wanting this book since last year so I put it on my Christmas wishlist. Guess what? I received this book on Christmas from my grandparents. I finished this book on one sitting (yes, book review delayed!) and it was fantastic!

An anxiety disorder disrupts fourteen-year-old Audrey’s daily life. She has been making slow but steady progress with Dr. Sarah, but when Audrey meets Linus, her brother’s gaming teammate, she is energized. She connects with him. Audrey can talk through her fears with Linus in a way she’s never been able to do with anyone before. As their friendship deepens and her recovery gains momentum, a sweet romantic connection develops, one that helps not just Audrey but also her entire family. {Goodreads}

I finished this book on one sitting as I can’t stop reading it. The story was so immersive with Audrey’s narration. This book tackles anxiety in a light way without disrespecting the topic which I appreciate very much!

Audrey is such an engaging narrator. She’s the reason why I find this book so interesting, why I finished this book in a span of under 10 hours and basically why I love this book! Linus is also an amazing character, kind and compassionate while still being a realistic character.

Frank, on the other hand, is such a funny character. Frank is Audrey’s gaming obsessed brother. He’s one of the reason why this book is humurous. Another reason for this book to be funny is their Mom. Their mom is comical yet still likeable.

But one thing I really appreciate about this book and probably the main reason why this book is lovable, light and humorous is the family dynamics. I can understand and relate to having a Mom who’s overprotective and having a brother who’s to obsessed with gaming.

As other book reviewers, I was also worried about the romance part of this book since this book also handles mental health issues. I don’t want this book to turn where love magically cure mental illness. Thank god that didn’t happen. Linus provides support for Audrey but it still takes a lot of effort for Audrey. The author acknowledge that Linus can’t solve Audrey’s problem.

Speaking of romance, the dynamics between Audrey and Linus are realistic. The author acknowledges that  dating isn’t easy and this is evidently shown in the book as they both experienced up and downs in their relationship.

Finding Audrey is an awesome read providing you a fresh and humorous take on mental illness. I recommend everyone on reading this if you haven’t!

I hope you enjoyed this book review! Have you read Finding Audrey? What are your thoughts about the book?

My Top 5 TV Shows

If you have been following my blog since the beginning or if you really know me, you know that I love watching (and binge-watching) TV series. If you don’t know, now you do! If I have a free time, the thing I would is watch a series.

I watch a lot of TV shows (and I mean a LOT! I’m not exaggerating) and I want to share you my top 5. It’s so hard to narrow it to only 5 because all of the series are really good but here we are Here are my top 5 TV shows!

Game of Thrones is obviously my first choice. This show is the adaptation of George R.R Martin’s book series “Song of Ice and Fire” where families of monarchs and elites fight a deadly game (hence Game of Thrones) for control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros and sit on the Iron Throne.

This show is one of the best out there. It has a very compelling story! Come on, royalties fighting to control the Seven Kingdoms while having dragons and ice zombies threaten the whole kingdom, don’t tell me it’s very awesome. Not only that, this show has a powerful cast – Lena Heady (Cersei), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) and Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) to name a few.

Legion, based on the Marvel comics, tells the story of David who thought he has schizophrenia all along, until he mets Syd. He gets involved with Melanie Bird who shows him that he has powers.

Another great TV show! The story isn’t some typical superhero story where there’s a big bad and it depends on the hero to stop the villain. It provides a fresh take on the hero story. This show also portrays the psychological aspect (as David is a telepath and he has “another personality”, you’ll see what I mean if you watch the show!) in an amazing way using lighting and technical aspects to display the mood. The cast is amazing too -Dan Stevens as David, Aubrey Plaza as Lenny and Rachel Keller as Syd.

Netflix’s Jessica Jones tells a darker and mysterious story of Jessica Jones, an ex-superhero turned private investigator, who suffers PTSD after a tragedy. She wants to do good but her priority is her apartment and getting through each rather than the safety of the world.

Just like Legion, this provides a fresh take on the hero story with a dark and mysterious story which I LOVE. This is something new for Marvel and it’s a risk but it pays. It’s also dark (I love stories that are dark) because it adds more flare to the story. Just like Legion, Jessica Jones also has a psychological aspect which they portray well.

Another Netflix show, Daredevil shows the story of Matt Murdock, lawyer at day and vigilante by night. Blinded by a mysterious chemical in a childhood accident, the chemical gave him heightened senses which he use to fight crime in Hell’s Kitchen.

Even though this superhero TV show isn’t something like Legion, it’s still an amazing TV show. What I appreciate is that the story is immersive and the characters are very well developed which makes you feel connected to the character.

97 years ago, a nuclear Armageddon destroyed civilization and the only survivors are on the Ark, 12 international spaceships unified together with 4000 people after three generations. As the Ark’s supplies dwindles, the leaders dropped 100 juvenile criminals on Earth. The 100 later finds out that people, called Grounders, have survived the nuclear Armageddon over the centuries.

I recently just finished its season 4 and it’s amazing. One thing I really like about The 100 is that every season has a very interesting story arc, from Mount Weather (season 2) to Praimfaya or a radiation wave (season 4), which keeps you engaged and immersed in the show. They also has  very well developed characters with different amazing internal conflicts.

So, that’s my Top 5 TV series. I hope you enjoyed this post and tell me, what’s your favorite TV shows and do you have any recommendations? See you soon, bye!
